JULETREFEST – DECEMBER 10, 2017
The Norwegian Society of Texas-Hovedstad want to say Tusen takk to all who attended Juletrefest 2017! It was a huge success with over 55 members and guests filling Shepherd of the Hills Fellowship Hall with love and friendship.
Dinner was delightfully delicious! Thanks to all who brought beautiful desserts and to Janet Merideth for the savory mashed rutabaga. Randi Parker, Kay Knutsen, Maren Bridges and Anna Marie Leystra did a terrific job decorating tables and tree. Nisse, Don Gaskin, thanks again for entertaining the children.
Everyone truly enjoyed the magical performance and sing along by talented Owe & Liv Lie-Bjelland. We will miss them when they return to Stavanger, but hope to see them again at future NST celebrations.
Raffle winners Randi Parker and Carol Stimson went home with the krumkake baker and Sweet Paul autographed cookbook! FUN! The silent auction was a great success with Carol Finsrud’s Norwegian Barbie being the hot item. Thanks to all for bringing so many Norwegian gifts!
Special thanks to Deborah Holbrook, Vice President and her sister Pam Rabon for planning most of this event and special thanks to Randy and Sherry Lee for their help with taking donations and registering Members.

Spring Althing at the Norwegian Consulate, Houston, TX – April 22 – 23, 2017
All Eight Chapter of The Norwegian Society of Texas met at the Norway house to discuss business matters and progress. We can expect a new website and online membership payment in the future as well as collaborative online tools with Office 365 becoming available for Chapter Officers. What a great job the Althing board has done and special thanks to the Viking Chapter for hosting!
The highlight of the day for the Hovedstad Chapter was the addition of Christina Moore to the board, filling the position of Secretary. Her Mother, Mari-Anne Moore, was again sworn in with her as Treasurer. With this mother daughter duo, our newly elected Vice president, Deborah Holbrook and sister Pam Rabon who has also been a huge help, we are primed to make this a great year!
The Althing was topped off with a delicious shrimp party hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Morten Paulsen, Norway Consul General. The Greenland shrimp were so fresh they brought in a cold front for a pleasant chill to a poolside evening party.
Juletrefest 2016 was quite an occasion topped off with delicious desserts brought by our members and the main course, Svinneribbe med svor, mashed Rutabega, Surkal, and potatos cooked by Norwegian Chef, Katrine Nordstrøm. It was so good the Julenisse even came to dine with us thanks to Don Gaskin. And finally, we officiated our Secretary Treasurer, Randy Lee, Elected a New Vice President, Deborah Holbrook—daughter of the previous treasure Yvonne Connell. Special thanks to Randi Parker, Kay Knutsen, Cheryl Christianson, Yvonne Connell, Randy Lee, Mari-Anne Moore and many others. God jul!

We had a great time celebrating Sankthansaften in the Austin area with swimming, Lars and Diane’s delicious cooking and finishing it all with a camp fire and history lesson from Randi and Mauren on the ancients who first started this tradition to the way it’s done in Norway today (as we did yesterday!).
